Pausing at the edge of a stream the Master remarked:
“Passing on and on like this it never ceases day or night.”

-- from the Analects of Confucius

Falling water is the internal movement towards life. It is what pours in, washes through and quenches deep. It is our bearing on center and our instinct for resolve. Falling water both fills the cup and empties it. All at the same time it cleans us up, keeps us soft and leads us home. Falling water is more than just a waterfall. It is the settling of the mind and the memory of now. Under everything we do the water is falling. Flowing by following, water points the way. Following by flowing, we drift along.

The Falling Water Tai Chi School is both the personal Chinese Medicine practice of Christopher Kiely, LAc., and the watershed of Tai Chi classes that have sprung from it. Medical services, private lessons and small workshops are offered at Chris's studio on Main Street in Bristol. While larger group Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong classes for all levels are held at various times, in various locations and by various affiliated teachers throughout the Champlain Valley of Vermont.

There are as many ways to learn Tai Chi as there are ways to focus and apply it once learned. It is truly a marvelous tool and one of the great treasures of ancient culture. Whether you learn it passively by receiving acupuncture treatments and drinking herbal tonics or more actively by practicing exercises and studying old texts entirely depends upon the competing circumstances and appetites of your life. Absolutely anyone can do it. No experience is necessary and there is no handicap that cannot be fruitfully integrated into the path of practice. All one needs is the will to learn, the patience to learn right, and a reliable enough guide to help steer the course true.

The river of Tai Chi is deep and wide and has been flowing steadily for thousands of years. It has many branches and tributaries and often resembles more of an ocean than a stream. Many an errant wayfarer have been turned back and denied access for lack of proper equipment and training. But the Falling Water School has a firm anchor in the teachings of Master Tung Kai Ying, a keen supply of sturdy and agile vessels ready for wayfaring and a solid team of sea-worthy captains on hand at all times to help keep your keel steady and straight as you learn to navigate the many rapids and doldrums on your own. Tai Chi is a path of rich and profound reward for those who seek another way. There is no aspect of human life that is not buoyed and nourished through its practice. Please don't hesitate to give us a call, drop an e-mail or visit a class at any time to see how we can be of assistance to you as you journey.

"The goal of Tai Chi Chuan is not to demonstrate strength, power or violence. The goal is to attain serenity, tranquility and the discovery of oneself. It is truly an exercise of the spirit."

- Master Tung Kai Ying
